It takes a special person to rescue an older pet with a short life span. Some days it must feel like the Rainbow bridge has a permanent link to your place.
I have four older guinea pigs. Two of them are shrinking right before my eyes. Rodents are wonderful and like you I love them as pets, but there is a sadness in watching how fast their lives move on. Martha was a large sow in her prime and now she is a frail old lady who is half her size. Guinea pigs shrink as they age.
I know what you are going through and I hope for all our rodent friends the passing is gentle and loving. It is all we have left.
Padme is still hanging on. I don't expect her to make it much longer though. Every day she's drastically worse. I've been giving her extra yogurt treats to get her to come out otherwise she would stay in her little nest she made. Also I want to give her extra because they make her happy. Bullet always wants to be right there when I feed them or give Padme her meds it's so sweet.
It really does feel like the rainbow bridge has a permanent link here. I'd much rather find a leprechaun's pot of gold if we are talking about rainbows.
It's rough but at the same time I know once they are gone they aren't in any pain anymore. I just felt like such a failure with Claire but there may have been other factors at play they caused her to pass. Her head wasn't under the water when I found her so it very likely may have just been a coincidence and she passed even with me doing everything possible to help her.
