Just in time for Father's day
#1
Charles the gorilla at the Toronto Zoo has fathered one last baby. He is 46 and has 16 children and now he has one more daughter. This time the zoo has broken with its naming traditions and called her Charlie, in honour of her father.

All gorilla species are endangered. The western lowland gorillas are declining rapidly in the wild. So the birth of any baby is very important. Charles was born in the wild and was orphaned. As the silverback of a gorilla troupe he has done his part for the survival of his  species. He has a number of grandchildren as well. His son Jomo is the silverback at Cincinnati Zoo. Given the amount of habitat that is being lost in the wild, right now they need to survive in protected circumstances. Some day if things change gorillas could return to the wild. All things are possible. Right now the birth of a  ew baby girl is more hope for the survival of the species.
