Biodiversity Loss in the 21st Century: The Sixth Mass Extinction
#5
We are in the midst of the biggest "science experiment" ever. If we do this and this and this to the environment, what will be the outcome. People refuse to believe in global warming. If they do believe they think it would be nice to have it warmer.  Most people are unaware of biodiversity in the first place and don't understand why we need it.

The link between human activity and the negative effects on the environment is clear. We can see what is happening. We can see it getting worse. We can even predict some of what is going to happen. People still don't believe it.

A small study that was discredited(the doctor even lost his licence) seemed to like autism to the measles vaccine. It has been completely refuted. There is no link! Huge numbers of parent believe in the link and refuse to vaccinate their children and we are having outbreaks of serious diseases that could be prevented. Parents believe in one discredited study absolutely and will put their children at risk because of it.

There is increasing evidence of global warming and its negative effects on our climate. You can actually see water levels rising.
Even if you don't believe that humans are the cause, how can you not believe that climate change is real. Still much of the population does not believe in global warming.

Zoos are actually working to protect biodiversity. The prezwalskis horses now exist in the wild, but they were wiped out many years ago. It is only because of the zoo populations that the species still exists. They are just zoos any more. They are arks build to save biodiversity. There is now a long list of species saved by zoos and returned to the wild. Others we don't know if they will survive, but zoos are trying.
In desperation they even have frozen genetic material preserved as a last chance to save a species and to keep genetic variation alive within a species.

We are trying and even a partial success is better than nothing.
