A young Humpback Whale was found dead Friday morning near the Tsawwassen ferry terminal in BC. Fisheries and Oceans Canada responded quickly as did the Tsawwassen First Nation. They gathered to perform a ceremony to send the whale on its way. Then the whale was taken to be examined to determine cause of death.

This is sad. The Humpback Whales have been doing better and increasing in numbers. Losing a young adult is a setback.
This comes after a report of an Orca calf found dead off of Vancouver Island.
Hopefully a cause of death will be determined. Our whale populations are so fragile we can't afford to lose even one whale.
Losing two is terrible. If human activity is the cause then we will have to change our human activity and make it more whale safe.
