Legal challenge to Japanese Dolphin hunt
#1
Japan classifies Dolphins as fish so the hunters in Taiji are able to follow fish quotas and fish restrictions of their hunt. If Dolphins were reclassified as mammals the laws would apply differently.
Dolphins are mammals!
London based Action for Dolphins and Japanese baes Life Investigation Agency are challenging Dolphins status in the courts.
If they can get them status as mammals then they can get them protected.

This is a serious battle. This is yet another brutal massacre that is being claimed as part of the traditions of an area.
All these brutal slaughters have to be fought one at a time. Every victory makes the world a little less cruel.
This one is going to be a tough fight. There is too much money to be made selling dolphins to aquariums and zoos.

In case anyone is not familiar with the Taiji slaughter:

It is recently edited so the stats are good. It is worth reading about the health effects of eating the dolphin meat. It is so contaminated that it is not safe for children or pregnant women. It also increases the death rate of the areas where it is eaten frequently.

This is a cruel and inhumane slaughter. At a time when  the oceans are in deep trouble we cannot as a planet let so many dolphins be killed. We need to be protecting them and fighting for their survival.
