Wombats shelter other animals from the fires
#1
It seems that wombats are the heroes of the day. They build extensive tunnels so they were able to shelter under ground and escape the fires. They have also allowed other animals to seek shelter underground with them in their tunnels. Because of this many small animals have survived. At a time when every animal is needed for the survival of its species, wombats have saved the day.

This is one of these remarkable things that can happen in a disaster situation. So many animal lives have been lost. To find wombats still alive and uninjured is amazing. Finding out that other animals were able to shelter with the wombats and they are uninjured as well is beyond anything we ever hoped for. There has been so much loss. We all needed some good news.

Skinks are my favourite lizards and I am so happy to find out that some have survived in wombat burrows.
