Snapping turtles on the move
#1
The snapping turtles in Ontario are no on the way to nesting sites. We all need to watch out for them and let them go on their way.
Only interfere if a turtle is injured or in danger. If the turtle is in danger, move it to safety and let it continue on its way. We need every turtle and every egg they produce if the species is going to survive.

Snapping turtles are such an incredible species. They look like something out of prehistoric times. They also live a long time and mature very slowly.
For that reason we must protect the adults. It takes so long for an adult to be ready to breed. I have only seen one out of the water once and it looked much bigger than I expected. They look very heavy too. I hope the lockdown conditions will prove helpful to them this year. They could use a break.
