King Penguin chick hatches against all odds.
#1
The little penguin is the chick of mom, Grace, age twelve and dad, Solomon, age 17. The hatching took place at Calgary Zoo. Near the end of incubation, when mon moved away from the egg, it was dislodged and rolled away and was cracked. The zoo staff patched the egg and placed it in an incubator. It is very hard for a chick to survive a broken egg. When the time came, the chick was unable to get out of the egg. The zoo staff very carefully opened the egg and gave the little chick the help it needed to be born. The chick made it from the egg and has since been reunited with its parents who were happy to see him.

That is one tough little chick.  A cracked egg is a serious problem. That was quick thinking by the zoo staff to patch the egg and later to help the chick hatch.
Interesting that the parents welcomed the chick back. Even though the chick was in the egg the last time they saw it, they knew it was their chick.
Clearly the bonding starts before the hatching and they have some way of knowing their own chick.
I hope the little one thrives and we hear more about him as he grows.
