Cockatoos construct sets of tools to get certain foods
#1
A set of cockatoos that were captured for observation provided observations that were unexpected. Birds and other animals use tools. So far only chimpanzees and capuchins have been observed to make a set of tools for a purpose. Until now. The cockatoos used three tools to open a large seed and scoop out the centre.
This is complex tool use. Further study found the remains of similar tool use in the forest. Cockatoos are known to be intelligent. This is proof of the level of intelligence.

We know a lot of animals are clever. Perhaps we have not observed them enough to know how clever they are.
Any time we study animals we find out amazing things. I have never read a study that determined that a species is less intelligent than previously thought.
(we won't mention homo sapiens, that is a whole different discussion)
We might be surprised if we knew how intelligent some species are.
