Sadly animals are able to catch covid from humans. The three Snow Leopards at the Nebraska Zoo came down with covid. Now they have died of complications from the disease.
Zoos have been careful with their animals, but sadly some have still become infected. There is a vaccine available to zoo animals, but it has taken time to get the vaccine to the zoos.

Considering how few snow leopards there are in the world, any loss is tragic for the species. It is also a heart break for the people of Nebraska who have grown to love the animals. The people at the zoo must be deeply effected by the loss. This is just one more loss from the pandemic, but it is a very sad one.
Hopefully the rest of the animals can be protected in time before there are more losses.
