Ontario Cormorants declining.
#1
A few years ago the Ontario government okayed the hunting of Cormorants. They allowed hunters to kill 15 birds a day from Sept 15-Dec 31.
The birds are not used for food and the bodies are often abandoned where they are killed.  Cormorant colonies are declining rapidly and could disappear if this goes on.

This is not the only bad thing this particular government has done, but it is one that could soon be irreversible.  No species could survive having each hunter able to kill 15 per day for 3 1/2 months. The decision to do this makes no ecological sense. It does not take into account the impact  of having a one species decimated like this.  It is a brutal slaughter and it needs to be stopped before it is too late.
There is an election in the spring. I hope it is not to late for the cormorants.

This is so wild! How in the world were they even allowed to set the hunting season with no science backing? And then the meat doesn't taste good so, WHY people? Ugh, I will never understand killing for the sake of killing.

That is one of the first things our premier did when he was elected. He doesn't do science. He was listening to the hunting/fishing lobby. They don't do science either. They support the spring bear hunt that puts out food for hungry bears coming out of hibernation. When they come to eat, they kill them.

He also cut the minimum wage increase that was about to happen and increased the number of children in classrooms. There is a whole list of things he did.
He needs to be a one term premier.

Unfortunately for the cormorants it may be irreversible. If they are gone, they are gone forever.
