It is home to a great diversity of species. Many have never been identified. The area is constantly being researched and it has just been announced that 224 new species have been identified. They range from a monkey species, a snake species and a newt species to a new species of ginger plant.
Every year new species are being found.

We are facing a biodiversity crisis as species go extinct all around the world. Finding new species and recognizing that there are more to be found is a real cause for hope and joy. The world is bigger and more diverse than we realize. We have lost a lot, but there is still a lot of wildlife left. If we act now with conservation projects we can maintain biodiversity. We do need to protect the Mekong Region. Who knows what amazing species we will find there next year.
