World's oldest male gorilla dies at 61
#1
Ozzie, the Western Lowland Gorilla, has died at the age of 61.  He was a resident of Atlanta Zoo since 1988. He was the oldest male gorilla. Gorillas are considered old at 40 so Ozzie did very well to make it past 60. He is predeceased by Choomba, a 59 year  old female gorilla who died on Jan 13, 2022. He is survived by children, grand children and even great grandchildren.  Ozzie is famous for being the first gorilla to cooperate in having his blood pressure taken.
He will be missed by the team that has been caring for him.

Ozzie lived a good and full life. I know he will be missed by many.

It is sad that so many gorillas were brought out of the wild. Many were orphaned, sometimes by poachers. It is good to know that these gorillas have been able to lead good, happy lives with a gorilla family around them.
