The war in Ukraine and any other war is unfair to animals. They have no part in our conflicts. In this war however, the invaders seem to be targeting the animals because the people are trying to look after them. Animal shelters have been deliberately targeted.

It is sad that so many lives have been lost. It is especially sad when innocent animals are involved. Clearly some of what has happened is a war crime. I think it is time for the world to declare the targeting of animals as a war crime. Our battles are not their battles and for any humans for any reason to deliberately kill animals is a crime and needs to be treated as such. There need to be consequences for mistreating animals in war. We have rules to protect prisoners of war. We need rules to protect the animals in a war zone. I hope one of the animal rights groups pushes for such protection.
