What is an animal's life worth?
#1
This is an interesting and complex article about how we value animal life. It is triggered by the two animal rights activists who were acquitted of stealing two sick piglets when they were investigating a factory farm. The little pigs were considered worthless, even though they did survive and now live on a sanctuary farm.

It seems we are willing to vote for more humane treatment of animals intended for food, but we are not willing to pay for it.

There are a lot of issues raised by this article. We are clearly struggling with the idea of more humane treatment of farm animals. Some people just don't want to hear about it. Some people will support the idea as long as it doesn't cost them anything. I think we are moving in the right direction. Eventually we will change things for the better for animals. Questions that are asked now were not even thought about years ago. Progress is slow, but we are making progress towards the humane treatment of animals. We didn't create factory farming overnight, it is going to take time to change it.
