Beetles eat food waste and produce fertilizer
#1
Colombian beetles are key to a project that uses food waste to produce fertilizer. The larvae of the beetles eat local feed waste and in that was provide a service to the community. They produce nutrient rich fertilizer as an end product. When they mature, they beetles produce more eggs to start the next generation of garbage eating larvae. The beetles are sold as pets. They can be 6.5 inches long and are very popular in Japan.

This is a very practical use of resources. The beetles exist to eat things, especially in the larval stage. Humans produce massive amounts of food waste. Put the two together and you have a solution to food waste problems. In return they produce naturally, the fertilizers needed to produce more food. It is a very neat solution to a number of problems. If some of the beetles find homes as pets, it is even better.
