Road closed for salamander crossing.
#1
Every year Jefferson Salamanders come out of hibernation and head to the ponds they were hatched in, to lay their own eggs.
Unfortunately a busy road lies between the hibernation site and the nesting site. For the last ten years that road has been closed from mid  March to mid April to allow the salamanders to safely cross the road.

This is really beautiful. They close the road to protect the salamanders. Without this road closure many salamanders would be killed. The loss of their eggs would cause a real drop in salamander numbers. This is a very ecofriendly action. We put a road where we shouldn't have, so we make up for that by closing the road when necessary. We need to do this in many more places.
