Earth Day 2023
#1
It is Earth Day 2023. It is hard to believe this all started in 1970, 53 years ago. This is considered the birth of the modern environmental movement.
We have come so far since those early days. Think of how much more we know about the environment. Our situation is more serious now. Back then global warming and climate change were ideas, now they are actually happening. We are seeing first hand the damage that was being predicted.
On the plus side, there are a lot of conservation projects that are happening, that are actually working.

However you celebrate the day every little bit counts.
We try to combine spring clean-up in the city with Earth Day. People are asked to pick up the litter that seems to collect on our streets every winter.
Just preventing waste from washing into our rivers is start. Planting a tree or two couldn't hurt either. Planning and planting pollinator friendly plants this spring is a step in the right direction.

In my neighbourhood there is a community garden in the large park. They create a compost pile and fertilize with natural compost. They build the compost using organic waste from a local small brewery/pub. That cuts out the need for chemical fertilizers and it cuts down the waste from the brewery. It is a small thing, but it is a positive thing for our planet.
