The zoo is part of the Sudan Natural History Museum in Sudan's capital. There are 100 animals there that get care daily. It has been three weeks since anyone could reach the animals because of the fighting. Many of the animals will have died from a lack of food and water.

Many people have died and food and water are in short supply. For the animals in the zoo, it is not just shortages. The people who care for the animals have been unable to reach them. The longer this goes on, the less chance there is of saving any of the animals. Animals do not do well when they are caught in human conflicts. It is heartbreaking to know these animals are there, unable to escape and almost certainly going to suffer miserable deaths.
