Why do squirrels dig in flower pots

It turns out that squirrels have a number of reasons for digging in flower pots.
Some of it is to hide food and find food. Pretending to hide food to fool other animals! I never thought of that.

I think some of their digging is because it is fun for them. 
They just like to make a mess.
