Road closed for annual salamander crossing
#1
A road in Burlington Ontario is closed from March 16 to April 12 for salamander breeding season. They return to the same spot to breed every year.
The city has been doing the road closure since 2012. For the Jefferson Salamander this has made a big difference.

Jefferson Salamanders are a protected species, but the road closure is protection that  is really working.
Soon the young salamanders will be leaving the pond and starting their life on land.
Their numbers will be good because at the right time the road was closed to enable the salamanders to reach the pond safely.

There are many thing we can do to help species to survive and when we actually do them, it does make a difference.
