Massive fire runoff contaminates ducks in Toronto
#1
A few days ago a large fire in a chemical distribution plant sent contaminated water into creeks on Toronto's west end.
Now there are dead fish and ducks. Ducks that were found alive are contaminated with an oily sludge.
Clean up of the ducks is underway. Clean-up of the creeks will take more time.

The contaminates are into the environment. There will be consequences for a long time. We can see dead ducks and fish. What about the smaller inhabitants of the creeks? They will suffer from the runoff too. We might not see them, but they will be affected. This will effect the environment for years to come.

It is much worse than they thought. The pictures show a very damaged creek. Many animals are dead and many more will die.

When chemicals are stored near a river it is an accident waiting to happen. Even if they clean up the area, the toxic chemicals are now in the food chain.
Animal deaths will continue for a long time. Eventually the chemicals will reach the lake and from there they can spread. Who knows how far the destruction will spread.
The thing is, they don't know how far the destruction will spread. Plans should have been made to contain this before anything happened. Plans made now are too little too late.
