International Dog Day is celebrated every year to draw attention to the role of dogs in our lives. Dogs do so much for us, but we often fail to even meet their basic needs.

People are encouraged to adopt a dog or at least help the shelters that care for dogs.
In response to this day, the Toronto Humane Society posted a list of the 7 dogs who have been at the shelter the longest.

I have met Hazel and she is such a sweet dog. I hope this gets her a forever home. She would be so happy to be loved as someone's pet.
