Picas make hay while the sun shines
#1
Picas are a little mountain animal related to the rabbit family. All summer long they gather flowers and lay them out to dry. They gather the dried flowers into hay stacks that they store as their winter food supply. Seeing them is rare enough. Seeing them gathering flowers is real luck and good timing.
Getting pictures is even better luck.

Picas are the cutest. They are small and quick moving. You can sometimes hear their high pitched squeaks if you are up in the mountains.
Sometimes you even see them. Seeing them gather flowers would be the experience of a lifetime.  I have seen picas, but I have never seen them with flowers.
It is amazing that they live way up a mountain and make their own hay from mountain wildflowers. There is not much else up there.
I just hope they can survive climate change.  They survive some pretty tough conditions. It would be sad if the climate change we have created is too much for them.
