Ruben the lion finally rescued

Ruben the lion was left behind when a private zoo was closed in Armenia. The rest of the animals found places to go, but no one could take Ruben.
That was five years ago. Since then  Ruben has lived in a small cell with little to eat and no exercise. His health has suffered and he can barely walk.
Animal Defenders International got involved and Qatar Airways Cargo. They arranged to fly him to South Africa to the Animal Defenders International Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary has 455 acres and 32 rescued lions and tigers.
Ruben has trouble walking because of his years of neglect, but he is trying hard and making progress.

Good thing there are groups like Animal Defenders International to help animals like Ruben. It looked like he might spend the rest of his life in a small cage.
Now he has a beautiful space in a large sanctuary where there are other lions. Many thanks to the airline for getting him there.
I hope he has many years left to enjoy his new life.

That is good news at least in his twilight years he'll be cared for.

It is sad to think of him all those years alone with little to eat and nothing to do. I hope he gets well enough to live with other lions. He at least knows there are lions around him now.
