City of Calgary kills two Beavers
#1
AngryCalgary had two Beavers living in a storm water pond. The built a dam and settled in. People walking by loved the Beavers. Vegetation and other wildlife benefited. Yes there was a risk of water levels getting too high. However there are ways of dealing with that. Instead, Calgary had the Beavers killed.
Traps were placed under water. That means the Beavers would be caught under water and they would drown.

Other cities in Alberta have learned to coexist with beavers. Drainage tubes were put in one dam to keep the water levels from getting too high.
It was not that big a project. A city like Calgary would have the resources to do the same thing.
We have to learn to coexist with beavers. They are crucial to the health of ecosystems.
Dare we hope that by next year when new beaver take over the pond, Calgary will have learned how to work with them, and to work with nature.
