Where is the Ikea Monkey now?
#1
More than ten years ago a young monkey, actually a Japanese Macaque was found wandering in the entrance of an Ikea store wearing a very stylish coat.
Because he was a prohibited animal he was confiscated and the owner fined. He was transferred to Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary.
He has settled in and has lived a happy life with other macaques ever since. Darwin is now able to live as a normal macaque instead of being pressured to live like a human.
Story Book Farm is an amazing place that takes in primates from various circumstances and lets them live as normal a life as possible.

It is good to hear how Darwin is doing. It was a lucky day for him when he was taken away from the life of a pet. It wouldn't have ended well.
As he matured he would not have worked out as a pet. He may have been a cute little guy, but he is also a macaque. He was going to get bigger and more aggressive. It is never wise or fair to try and make a pet out of a wild animal. It could have ended badly. Fortunately for Darwin he ended up in a place that is suited to who he is and what his needs are. Sadly it doesn't always end that well.
