Memorial Christmas Tree for dogs in Vancouver

There is a memorial Christmas tree in north Vancouver to commemorate dog we have lost. It all started when a woman hung a photo of her son's guide dog after the dog died. The idea has spread and happens every year.

I think we are needing to have memorials to our pets. They were a significant part of our lives. We need some way to acknowledge that. 
This is not the first memorial tree I have heard of. I wonder how many there are out there.
