Raccoon rescue
#1
A raccoon managed to get stuck in a sewer grate. She went in head first and got stuck halfway in. The grate was snowed in and full of ice.
The Guelph Humane Society team couldn't get her free. So they called in the fire department. The raccoon was sedated and the firemen chipped away the ice and snow. Once free the raccoon was taken to the Guelph Humane Society Shelter. She was check for injuries and warmed up. They fed her and kept her overnight. In the morning she was ready to go. Once released she took off.

Raccoons use the sewer grates all the time, but this time of year they are a little chunkier. The opening was probably a little narrower because of the ice.
It took a team to free her, but the raccoon recovered very quickly.
Our raccoons get into the strangest places. I am sure there will be more rescues before this winter is over.
