Why do groundhogs emerge for Feb 2? It isn't to predict the weather.

The little hibernators are thinking spring and mating season. I know the trees are showing signs of spring. The birds aware of the longer days and are thinking spring. Animals know how to read the calendar, even though they don't have calendars. Nature is their calendar. We could learn from them.
