Dog caught in three leg hold traps

A pleasant walk with her dogs along a recreational road turned into an emergency.  Vera, a two year old shepherd was caught in a leg hold trap. Before she could be freed she was caught in two more leg hold traps. In the end it required the help of firemen to get Vera free. She is injured, but she won't lose a leg.
Pearl the dog was not so lucky. She was trapped in a leg hold trap for days and lost her leg.

Dog owners are calling for signs warning of traps in an area.

I am glad Vera is going to be okay and I am sorry about Pearl.
The idea of signs is interesting. It would prevent people from getting caught in traps.
It misses the obvious though. Wild animals get caught in these traps. They are sometimes caught for days. Sometimes they are not even the animal the trapper wants. Their captivity ends in death.

Leg hold traps are cruel. Animals suffer for days in fear and pain. Yes we should be concerned about dogs getting hurt, but we should also care about other animals and their suffering.
