Doggy Daycare mixed up two dogs

The doggy daycare mixed up two similar dogs and someone took the wrong dog home. The dog did seem different, but it did take a while before they caught on that it was not their dog. They were not even suspicious for days. When they took their dog to the vet and he wasn't neutered or microchipped, then they knew they had the wrong dog.

That would be so upsetting. How did it take so long to sort out the mix-up. What about the other dog's family? Didn't they notice anything?
Why would a doggy daycare take off dog collars. That seems a bit risky for a number of reasons. It certainly led to a mix-up.
