Botswana threatens to send 20,000 elephants to Germany
#1
There is a dispute growing over conservation of elephants. The number of elephants in Botswana has increased. Botswana allows trophy hunters to kill elephants and take trophies. They make a lot of money from this.
Countries like England and Germany are banning the importation of hunting trophies. This would cut off a source of income for Botswana.
They are angry and want to send elephants to England and Germany so they will know what it is like to live with elephants.

There are probably too many elephants to be sustainable without some changes. Some could be moved to areas that need their elephant herds restored.
Making money off of hunting goes against the whole idea of conservation. Maybe they should focus on ecotourism. People would pay to see herds of elephants in the wild. The same herd could be shown to people over and over. Hunting permits are a one time deal.
I hope they can resolve this reasonably and calmly. That will be the best things for the elephants.
