Major Los Angeles highway closed for the construction of a wildlife bridge
#1
The 101 Freeway in Los Angeles will be closed at night for weeks while a wildlife bridge is built. It will span 10 lanes of traffic and allow wildlife to move safely from the Santa Monica Mountains into the Sime Hills of the Santa Susanna Range. The project began in 2022 and will be completed in 2025.
The final bridge will be covered in soil  and plants to blend in with the natural surroundings. This will be the largest wildlife crossing built in the USA so far.

This is a remarkable project. It will make a tremendous difference to the wildlife in the area. In particular it will help the mountain lions in the Santa Monica Mountains. They have a very limited gene pool. This bridge will allow them to wander and increase their genetic diversity.
Many species will benefit, even reptiles and insects. Even ants will be able to use the bridge.
This is an amazing project and I hope its success will inspire the building of other wildlife bridges.
