Rare Ojibwe Spirit Horse born near Ottawa
#1
Ojibwe Spirit Horses have been in Canada since before the Europeans brought their horses. There numbers are low because they were deliberately exterminated. At one point the last four mares were smuggled to safety.
Now they are making a comeback because people are making an effort to increase their numbers.
Madahoki farm near Ottawa has the Ojibwe Spirit horses. This year they are happy to announce the birth of a second foal. The foal is a beautiful little male.
There is another birth expected in a month.

There are less than 200 of the horses left so the Ojibwe Horse Society closely monitors the genetics of the bloodlines.
This is yet another species that is being restored and returned to its natural habitat. It takes time, but the ecosystem will be stronger for it.
These are amazing little horses that are naturally adapted to the cold Canadian weather. I do hope to go see them some day.
