New Zealanders save whales from mass stranding

More than thirty Pilot Whales stranded themselves in northland New Zealand. 
Hundreds of people turned out to help the whales. Both conservation workers and local residents were present. They lifted the whales on sheets to help refloat them.
Hundreds of people turned out to help save them. 
Sadly three adults and a calf died, but thirty whales were saved.
A Maori cultural ceremony was help for whales that died.

What an amazing thing, to see so many people show when they were needed to save a pod of whales.
Humans don't always do the right thing, but sometimes they do. We can be proud to be human when we read stories like this.
