Search for lost dog turns up an animal dumping ground

A dog went missing near Frenchman Mountain near Las Vegas. He was spotted and the search along the highway led to a spot where people have been dumping animals. There were dead dogs, sheep, goats and many others. Whole litters of dead puppies were found. 
The animals were checked for micro chips. They were in different stages of decomposition. So this has been going on for some time.

It is shocking that people will drive out into the desert to dump an animal. Some of them might have been dead already, but some were dumped alive.
The whole situation is terrible. How did some of these animals die? Are people dumping sick animals rather than care for them. The whole situation needs
further attention. I hope they can trace some of the animals back to their owners so they can be fined or charged. Certainly the highways need to be monitored so this doesn't happen again.
