J Pod has a new calf
#1
The Orcas along the west coast of North America are known as J Pod. There are only 73 adults left in the group. That is why it is very good news that J Pod has welcomed another calf. The calf is looking healthy and strong and there is hope for its survival. The mother of the calf  is known as J40 and this is her first calf.
The calf J 52 is a female.

J Pod has had such a struggle for survival. It is nice to see something hopeful like this.
J Pod is famous for the mother Orca, Taliquah, who carried her dead calf for 17 days. Her grief moved us all, She did the same thing when she lost a second calf.

Hopefully for J Pod, the latest calf will survive and bring future possibilities to the southern resident Orcas.
