A veterinarian saw a 16 year old dog tied to a truck. The dog was clearly unwell. She took him to her clinic and treated him.
She refused to return the dog and has been sentenced to 10 days in jail. She also has to pay $1000.00 compensation.
She felt ethically bound to keep the ailing dog. She also recognizes now that the bond between the man and dog really mattered.
Sadly the dog had to be euthanized due to age related health problems.

This is not a simple situation. The dog was old and sick and returning him to the street was not a good thing.
Separating the dog from his beloved owner was not a good thing.
I think the real problem is the fact that someone is homeless and has nowhere to live with his dog. He had no way to get medical help for his dog.
He had no home to take him to. It is not that he wanted to live on the street with his dog. No one wants to live on he street, but he had no choice.
It is sad that he was separated from his dog at the end.
Sending the vet to jail seems a little harsh. People who abuse animals get lesser penalties.
