Raccoons love solving puzzles

Scientists have been studying raccoons and found they love solving puzzles. They will solve a puzzle to get a treat, but they will keep puzzle solving after the
treat is gone. They like the actual puzzle solving.

That fits what the rest of us see with raccoons. All the money that was spend to create food waste bins with  locks just created a puzzle gave for raccoons.
They opened them very quickly. They love to get into our homes and figure out how to open jars of food. They will figure out electric can openers, just give them time.
If we want to outsmart raccoons we just need to set up puzzles to keep them busy. If they are really busy with puzzles, they will leave my garbage alone, maybe.
