I am glad he is getting a 30 day assessment. That means he is not yet out on the street. The man is dangerous and should never be out on the loose again. There was a time lag between the two animal killings and each killing took time. He will do other things if he gets a chance. The law needs to act to protect the vulnerable. Unfortunately animal cruelty laws are weak.
I am sure there are a lot of cases where Kijiji is used to obtain animals for bad reasons. (I think Luke Magnotta obtained animals online and he killed animals before he killed a human)
What we don't have is direct proof. It is still in the anecdotal stage.
Wouldn't it be great if we acted on something at this stage instead of waiting for something horrible to happen.

Apparently his former girlfriend asked for an emergency protection order. He must be very dangerous and mentally unbalanced....hearing voices telling him to kill her...etc.
He obviously needs to be detained for further psychiatric assessment/treatment. He can NOT be let loose!

The man is clearly a danger to society. The cruelty to animals was just a sign of what he is like. I am sure he could do a lot worse. Surely after a month in a mental hospital they were able to see how dangerous he is.
If his girl friend is smart she will disappear, change her name and appearance and live off the grid for awhile as a way to break contact with him.
I hope they do not turn him loose.

Thank you for the update. He has acknowledged his guilt, which is positive, but whether this is for legal reasons (tor reduce the sentence) or from genuine repentance is far from clear. He remains a serious danger to all animals and to his former girlfriend.

Those poor little Souls. I hope they find peace and love on the other side. This world was horrific for them.
He is severely psychopathic by the sound of it, and tendencies like this must be taken seriously.

There is no way it is safe to let this guy loose. I don't know what the law can do, but it must do it to the fullest extent. He has pleaded guilty to try for a lighter sentence. Also, I doubt he wanted to face a Jury. I can't think of anyone who would vote not guilty and having the evidence come out in court would make a harsher sentence more likely.
If the let him loose we will be hearing about more cases in future.
Surely someone else knew about what he was doing. Why didn't they stop him?
