Envigo is to be fined 35 million in an animal welfare case. In 2022 Envigo shut down its facility because of animal welfare violations and released 4000 Beagles to the Humane Society of the United States. With the help of other rescue groups and some good publicity all the Beagles were adopted into good homes. Envigo closed its facility because of the numerous animal welfare violations. Now the case has gone to trial and the company will receive the largest fine ever given for an animal welfare case.

This case sends a strong message to other breeding facilities. If they mistreat animals and cause them pain and suffering, there will be consequences.
This might be incentive for other companies to get out of the lab animal breeding business. Testing on live animals has been called into question and other options are being considered. Running a business that provides animals for labs is not a secure industry any more. It is also an industry that is being watched by animal welfare groups. It is possible we will see more breeding facilities close. It might take a while, but testing on live animals is coming to an end.
Sadly many animals will suffer and die before it does.
