A local coast guard off of Somaliland intercepted a boat that had 11 Cheetah Cubs on board. The cats were stuffed in sacks like potatoes. Five people have been arrested and the cubs are now in the care of the Cheetah Conservation Fund. Somaliland is a breakaway region of Somalia and a serious hub for animal trafficking.
Most to the animals end up in the middle east. Another ten cubs were rescued in August.

This was a real save. Cheetahs are not pets and they would have had miserable lives. They were already in terrible condition.
The Cheetah Conservation Fund is currently caring for 128 rescued Cheetahs. Sadly the illegal pet trade is driving the species to extinction.
Unless we stop the illegal animal trade things could end badly for the species.
