Protect your pet from rabies
#1
I know many of you are lucky enough to live in places where there is no rabies. However as the warm weather approaches those of us in places with rabies need to take it seriously. Raccoons and other animals that get rabies are now waking from hibernation. That means new cases and new danger for pets that might encounter rabies.

There are places in southern Ontario that are having a rabies problem. The best thing you can do is vaccinate your pet! A vaccinated pet is a safe pet!!

Even if you are not in one of the danger areas, vaccination is still a good idea. You never know when a disease is going to travel. One rabid raccoon hitching a ride even by accident can transport the virus into an area that so far is rabies free.

Unless you live in the UK or some other rabies free area, it is safer to vaccinate for rabies. It is safer for your pet and it is safer for you.
We can eventually eradicate rabies. It won't be easy, but it requires direct transmission. If there is no unvaccinated animal to transmit the disease to, it will die out. No pet should be unvaccinated. That is what we can do to stop rabies.
