Animal sacrifices and animal killing festivals are a weird hold over from the past. The world was a much more barbaric place and world religions were more primitive. On the whole we are trying to move away from such cruelty, but it is hard to change people.
I think all our protests and petitions are having an effect. Good news that the London protest went well. It sounds like Nepal wants change. However it is going to be tough to change things on the local level.
How do you reach people who think drowning and cruelly killing a goat will bring blessings. When I look at these festivals I feel like I must be reading a history book. This can't really be happening in the 21st century. Actually I find it hard to believe that people thought it was okay even centuries ago. Cruelty is never okay.
