Another Barn Fire!

These barn fires are all in Ontario  and all in this month. This time it is 2000 pigs that are dead.
That's right, two thousand pigs dead. It is the sixth fatal barn fire this year.

Jan 4    43 race horses
Jan 12   a barn full of chickens (notice that they do not even give an approximate number of chickens in the barn)
Jan 14   12 horses
Jan 15   hundreds of pigs
Jan 17   500 milking goats and 30 cattle
Jan 19   2000 pigs

There is speculation that the cold weather may be a contributing factor.
We have cold weather every winter in Canada! This is nothing new.
What we do have is a failure to take barn fire safety seriously.

One fire is an accident and a tragedy. When it keeps happening over and over again. there is a problem that is not being addressed.

I feel for the people who lost animals, but I feel more for the animals that were trapped and died in fear, unable to escape.

This is a side effect of factory farming that maximizes profits over animal welfare. Barns should have sprinkler systems. No one barn should house 2000 animals. They can't be cared for and they can't be protected in an emergency.
I am not the only one who sees a problem.

I hope this is the last fire this winter, but I wouldn't count on it.

It is really a tragedy that all of the animals have died in the fires. They sure didn't protect them from fire!

There really needs to be some serious safety precautions set up for barns. Most people's homes are not that safe. I can only imagine what barns are like.
The fact that there are so many fires tells us that something is wrong.
