Canada Goose coats will still use fur
#1
The brand of clothing called Canada Goose is a big user of Coyote fur and duck down. They have taken their company public and are selling shares. Sadly it was well received and we can count on the company expanding and using more fur and feathers.

With so many alternatives they could make good products without harm to animals. They choose not to. Because they are a big brand name and kind of iconic, many people want the coats as status symbols. Many coyotes are going to die at the hands of trappers because of this. Smiley19

Good finds. You have been busy. We need to fight this company. It has become the in thing to wear a Canada Goose coat.
I sit there on the subway and in my car alone there are enough dead coyotes for a large pack. Everywhere I go this year I see dead coyotes on people's coats. There is no need for this ever, but especially there is no need for this in the city. We are hardly living in arctic survival situations where we need fur for warmth. Not only that, there are many good alternatives that are quite warm and look good.

I have a Northern Reflections coat and the hood is trimmed by a lovely furry, but not fur material that kept me very warm and some coyote somewhere still alive. I don't need to carry a dead animal around with me everywhere I go. I certainly wouldn't look more stylish with a dead animal around my hood.

Live and let live! That is a much classier look.

There are so many good alternatives to fur bearing Canada Goose coats.

There are some very good, very warm choices here.

There are European, American and Canadian companies with a range of prices.

Lots of choices, lots of styles and the knowledge that no animal suffered and died to keep you warm.

These coats are perfect for cool, but not cold weather and they are vegan.

There are so many good choices. They have materials and fibers for stuffing a coat that are actually better. Added bonus, they are usually machine washable. Try washing an actual down filled coat with fur trim in a regular washing machine and you will wish you bought the alternative.
There may have been a time when we had little choice in what we could wear, but this is the 21st century. Let's dress like it is the 21st century.

I remember washing a down-filled duvet once at my mothers -by hand, in the bath. I thought it would be no problem if done carefully. But I certainly wish I hadn't. Nothing was right about it after that. But what wasn't right anyway is so many birds had to die -presumably painfully -for the thing to be made in the first place. But I am not blaming my old Mama. She didn't realise that, I know.

Many people still don't realise the cruelty that goes into their 'fur trims' and designer handbags, and must-have fashion items that everyone is wearing. They don't know, or don't wish to know, the dark side of the glamour they like. And then there are those who insist that "you have to have fur or down to keep really warm in northern climates".
Well, artificial fibres work. Winter sports clothing is made from artificial fibres most of the time, so they MUST work!

So maybe some don't even care what happens to Coyotes. But it's right that they should know.

A lot of people don't want to know how the fur trim got on their coats. We need to push the information so that everyone knows.
Then if they are willing to have a coyote die for their fashion statement we at least know them for what they are.
If you are going to wear dead animals then you should know how they died.

We no longer need down. Coats with manufactured fibers are warm and light weight. Everything we get from animal sources can be made from other materials.

Washing down filled things is not easy. They end up getting very dirty because we can't really clean them.
I can imagine you washing a duvet. There would be no way to fluff it up again. People from your mothers generation had no idea.
I think none of us ever imagined the cruelty of collecting down. We thought there was some nice way it was done.

We thought everything we did with animals was nice. Chickens were happy to give us eggs and smiling cows were generous with their milk. How did we not think that an animal had to die to give us fur.

The truth is out now and we need to change or we are not the people we think we are. Lots of people want to see change.
Someday I will ride the subway and I won't be surrounded by a pack of dead coyotes.
