Gulf Island Beavers safe for now
#1
Parks Canada was planning to remove some beavers who are building  at Greenburg Lake on South Pender Island.
Parks Canada claimed they had reason for removing the rodents, but they were planning to kill them not relocate them.

The locals protested strongly and threatened action. They like the local beaver colony and want them to stay.

It is not clear yet if the beaver colony is safe in the long term, but they are safe now. If the reasons for removing the beavers are valid and they should be moved then they may have to be moved. They do not need to be killed. They can't be moved right now. They have already prepared for winter at their present location. A new location could be found and some time next summer they could be relocated as a group. That would be a kinder solution.

Why is it that every solution a government agency comes up with ends up with dead animals. Have they never realized that there are other possible outcomes?
