Hundreds of dogs await Yulin Dog Meat Festival
#1
It is hard to believe it is that time of the year again. Yulin is less than 2 months away. The dog traders have already amassed hundreds of dogs in warehouses ready to be shipped to Yulin.
Activists are working to save as many as they can, but we know that not all dogs will be lucky. Many dogs will die.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article...tival.html

It seems unbelievable that this is still going on. I know many dogs are rescued and the festival is losing its appeal for some people, especially young people. Still, they have not managed to shut it down. All we can do is keep signing petitions and supporting the groups fighting the festival and rescuing the dogs.

As soon as I find petitions I will post them.

I will await the petitions. This abomination is still continuing, but I live in hope that it will be ended one day in the not too distant future.

The rescuers are doing their best within the limits of that corrupt system they have to work in. We can continue to support them...and hope....and work in ANY way we can to fight this.

I encourage those who get deeply upset abut Yulin to be brave and sign anything they can find. I also feel tremendous pain but have to work through to to try to help those dogs. If there are upsetting images,  make sure the petitions get signed. Find a way of blocking the images on your computers if necessary. There is always a way.

Blessings and prayers for those dogs. And for the thousands who have died horribly, tortured, in ten years.

Thank-you for finding the petitions. I signed and posted to Facebook.

It is hard to believe that this is still going on. We know that some day it will end, but every year time runs out for too many  dogs.
We just have to keep pushing and know that some day things will change.
For the people working in China I am sure it helps to know that they have people around the world who support their efforts.

There was a time when nobody questioned Yulin. Now there are many who are against it around the world and in China.
When there are enough people against Yulin the pressure against it will shut it down. We will see it some day, but every year until then we have heavy hearts knowing the suffering the dogs go through.

I will keep watching for more petitions and any further news. I know the rescue groups in the area are going to try and save as many dogs as they can. You have to admire the dedication of animal rights people who are in the area. They refuse to give up even when change is happening so slowly.

This has only been running since 2009 so I hear. 10 YEARS. There are those who make it out to be an old tradition. I question that, as many do.

The reason it is not stopped is MONEY. Profits. Plus a corrupt system of government and councils who would rather help those who make money to continue to do so  (the councils presumably getting "back-handers" of some kind, or at least maybe having some stakes in it?)

Human corruption. That is (I assume) why the animal cruelty laws are non-responsive to change.

I knew Yulin was not an ancient festival, but I thought it was much older than it is. Wikipedia has a fairly detailed page.
I might not like some parts of it, but it does have a lot of information.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lychee_and...t_Festival

I think it is a little weak on the issues of how cruelly the dogs are treated, the fact that many are stolen pets and the issue of diseases spread by the festival.

Whenever there is money involved, governments everywhere side with the source of the money.
If it became profitable to ban the festival, that would be the end of it.

So would a zoonotic flu outbreak. I don't know how likely such a thing would be beween dogs and humans, but I wouldn't rule it off as impossible, given those circumstances.

But I am not wishing that upon those poor dogs....although dying of a flu would probably be preferable to their eventual fate. And I would certainly not wish it upon any of their rescuers.
