Ontario proposes new animal welfare legislation
New animal welfare legislation has been proposed for Ontario. It will be the strongest animal welfare legislation in Canada.
It is appropriately named the Provincial Animal Welfare Services act, PAWS.

It lists new offences that will help combat dog fighting. The act will allow inspectors to intervene to help animals in distress. They will be able to authorize others to act when an animal is in distress as in locked in a hot car. Penalties for animal abuse will be increased.
There are many other improvements that if implemented will improve conditions in the province.

I hope this passes and I think it will. It could change things for animals in this province and it could influence the other provinces to make changes. Canada's animal welfare laws are not the best. This is a big step forward. At least I hope it will be a big step forward.
